US-ILC REPRESENTS IN ALL 50 STATES

Melissa Fernandez

FOIA / Records Lead

An in-depth accumulation of knowledge and transformative growth has marked my tenure at US Immigration Law Counsel (USILC). The unique atmosphere at USILC steered me away from my initial desire to become a law enforcement officer. Instead, it has stirred a passion in me to make a significant impact in the lives of those who are often silenced and pushed into the shadows—individuals navigating the complex world of immigration. I now channel my energies into being a beacon of support for those who lack a voice in the United States.

As the FOIA / Records department lead, I am committed to offering solace and guidance to our clients. My specific role extends to overseeing records and conducting case analysis within the Records Department, a responsibility that emphasizes my commitment to precision and effectiveness. The ability to communicate fluidly in both English and Spanish allows me to engage with our clients on a meaningful level. I feel a personal connection to our clients since my own heritage echoes their stories. While I was born in the U.S., my grandparents’ journey as immigrants resonates deeply within me. This shared understanding stokes my desire to serve those in need of compassion.

My greatest joy is my 10-year-old son. My culinary passions manifest in a love for pasta and for making delectable chicken alfredo dishes. I also have an enthusiasm for the whimsical world of Disney.
